Williams College Museum of Art Presents
Masterworks of Chinese Painting: In Pursuit of Mists and Clouds
September 10 – December 4, 2005

Masterworks of Chinese Painting: In Pursuit of Mists and Clouds presents a stunning panorama of distinguished Chinese painting from the Ching Yüan Chai collection of the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive (BAM/PFA). The Ching Yüan Chai collection includes major figure painting and a selection of bird and flower paintings. Its greatest strength, however, is its landscapes. Considered the highest category of painting in China, the landscape embodies the ideals of the Confucian scholar. The exhibition encompasses 60 hanging scrolls, hand scrolls, and album leaves dating from the Song, Yüan, Ming, and Qing dynasties to the early twentieth century.  Organized and circulated by the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive. Partial funding provided by the Linen Fund of the Department of Asian Studies, Williams College.
