Williams College Museum of Art Presents
Alec Soth: NIAGARA
October 10, 2009–January 10, 2010
The museum presents two complementary exhibitions that contrast historical and contemporary views of Niagara Falls as sublime landscape, tourist destination, and romantic cliché.
Alec Soth: NIAGARA presents a selection of photographs from his series that depict sobering contemporary views of life on both the American and Canadian sides of the Falls. Using a large-format camera, Soth creates lushly detailed photographs that belie the often bittersweet subject matter of romance associated with the Falls – the “aftermath of passion,” as Soth describes it.
Dog Days Bogotá by Alec Soth will also be on view at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston, Massachusetts September 9 through November 28, 2009. Visit MASSART for more information.
