Educational Materials

The Williams College Museum of Art is pleased to present an interdisciplinary curriculum designed especially to help high school English, history, and art teachers use the material presented in the exhibition Making It New: The Art and Style of Sara and Gerald Murphy.Developed jointly by a team of teachers from Greenwich Central High School and the museum’s director of education, the curriculum features standards-based English and history units with integrated art projects. By using personalized art projects, the curriculum makes modern art and the history and literature of the era more accessible to students.

As one student commented, “I really enjoyed the ‘art component’. It helped show different points of view in history and this broadened my knowledge and understanding.”

To receive a free printed copy of the curriculum and to make a reservation for a school group tour, please contact Emily Schreiner, Coordinator of Education Programs, or call (413) 597-2038.

Educators are also welcome to print out this PDF; the curriculum is produced in color, so you may wish to select black and white only to save resources.
