"All Things Contemporary" Family Day at the Williams College Museum of Art! Saturday, February 12, 2000 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Williams College Museum of Art (WCMA) will hold its annual Family Day on Saturday, February 12, 2000 from 11:00 a.m. to 4 p.m. This year, "All Things Contemporary" will highlight the exciting world of contemporary art. Children, ages 4 to 13, who are accompanied by adults, are invited to participate in art activities and workshops inspired by the current exhibition of contemporary art from WCMA's permanent collection. The event will be free of charge.
Organized by the museum's Education Department, "All Things Contemporary" will offer children the opportunity to create ribbon and paper weavings, make a "Hanging out with the Stars" mobile, create "Silly Silhouettes," take part in creating two museum installation pieces: "Tree in the Forest" and "Piece by Piece, Row by Row," and more! Back by popular demand, "The Mystic Paper Beasts," whose costumes wowed children and adults alike five years ago, will perform original theatrical pieces that tell stories about the artistic process. Workshops entitled "Art and Improvisation," "Funky Photos," and "Blind Time" will also be conducted throughout the day.
Family Day and other educational programs at the Williams College Museum of Art are free to the community, made possible by the generosity of the Eugénie Prendergast Trust and the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency. For more information about Family Day or other programs sponsored by the education department call 413-597-2038.
