Williams College Museum of Art to host
Teachers’ Tea Open House
Tuesday, September 14, 2004
3:30 – 5:00 p.m.
Area teachers,
school administrators, and home-schooling parents are invited to a Teachers’
Tea open house on Tuesday, September 14, 2004 from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. The
annual open house is a unique opportunity to learn more about WCMA’s
award-winning programs for school children, after-school events, and workshops
for teachers, as well as a chance to reconnect with friends and colleagues.
WCMA’s Education Department will present this fall’s array
of programs for teachers, and students in kindergarten through twelfth
grade. Beginning in October, WCMA will offer two guided programs for school
groups: “Building Dimensions: The Architect’s Art,”
designed for kindergarten through sixth grade, and “Who Says So?,”
designed for grades six through twelve. In addition, two popular self-guided
tours, “WCMA in 3-Dimensions” and “Something About Space,”
will be offered again this year.
The Teachers’ Tea will also preview spring semester guided programs
for school children. These programs begin in March 2005; The exhibition
The Book of Kings inspires “Views from the Throne,” a tour
for students in kindergarten through grade six, and “Kings’
Tales and Artists’ Visions,” for grades six through twelve.
Teachers can also hear from Williams College student Museum Associates
and explore offerings ranging from sample classroom materials and gallery
activities, to curriculum packets.
Tea and scones will be served.
Looking forward to Friday, October 15 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., WCMA will
host “More Than Meets the Eye,” a special interactive workshop
for educators, focusing on a Look, Study, and Imagine method designed
to sustain student interest in works of art. A highlight of the workshop
will be a discussion and hands-on activity with Erica Stoller, daughter
of architectural photographer Ezra Stoller, and director of Esto Photographics
Inc., the architectural photography agency and image library in New York.
All WCMA educational tours are free, as is the Teachers’ Tea. The
museum can defray the cost of school busing expenses for most museum visits.
For information about the Teachers’ Tea or other programs offered
by the Education Department, call 413.597.2038.
The Williams
College Museum of Art is open Tuesday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to
5 p.m., and on Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. Admission is free and the museum
is wheelchair accessible.
